Soil Temporalities

 

Soil Temporalities is a one-day participatory program of workshops and an exhibition. Clay, rubble, mangrove ecologies, and fire converge as interconnected material conditions, shaping practices that remain in dialogue throughout the day.

2:30-4:30pm
How to Survive on Unstable Ground
by Ricardo Sarmiento Ramírez
Ricardo Sarmiento Ramírez hosts a workshop that invites participants to interact with mangrove ecosystems, reflect on unstable grounds, engage with their material and symbolic dimensions, and open space for conversations on displacement, transmission, and the movement of knowledge across contexts.

Learning How to Count
by Maia Beyrouti
Maia Beyrouti will host a presentation and open discussion on clay, material realities and the built environment in times of fascism and genocide, situating the ground and its narratives in relation to various contexts of demolition, controlled access and power structures in Gaza and Berlin.

6-8pm
Rupestrian Cinema Lab: Analog Film with Clay
by Walla Capelobo

In this workshop, participants will shape clay characters and build an analog “cave cinema,” where fire, shadow, and movement create a choreography inspired by rupestrian images, reactivating storytelling as an earth-bound practice. The practice unfolds as a collective geomythology, where minerals feed contemporary myth-making and soil is reactivated as communal ground. 

Footnotes to Freedom

(Exhibition)

ReRouting will share a series of photographs produced as part of their workshop Footnotes to Freedom with students from the University of Minho in Guimarães, where clay functioned as a medium to map and engage with the city. The workshop was organised in the context of The Walking Body 7 organised by WALC (Walking Art Local Communities).
